The IT departments at Umeå University, along with various IT-related centers, have created a unified gateway to simplify the interaction and communication between businesses, municipalities, and researchers and educators in the field of IT. With more than 200+ researchers and educators and nearly a dozen IT education programs, Umeå University has the capacity to offer services at both basic and advanced levels to strengthen the region’s digital and green transformation.
UmU Digital is actively involved in all three operational areas where researchers and students contribute to the generation of new knowledge.
Consultations take place both in-person and digitally, where small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public entities such as municipalities and regions can discuss various types of questions and challenges. This can range from who to contact if you want to learn more about a specific technology to how to approach the digitalization or automation of all or parts of your business, operations, and production processes.
Furthermore, the project office regularly visits municipalities in Västerbotten and Norrbotten, where meetings with business offices and learning centers provide the opportunity to make company visits and discuss possibilities and challenges.
The project office actively participates in several regional networks, such as ProcessIT Innovation, Viable Business Hub, and North Sweden Cleantech, and has significant opportunities to introduce and invite businesses and public entities to these networks. For companies interested in expanding their market/segments, the EDIH network can provide support for visiting regions in Europe and gaining access to equivalent services from local/regional digital hubs in those areas.
At Umeå University, the project office offers services to experiment with new technology in various technical fields at different complexity levels. The simplest form is to provide others with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with new technologies through presentations, introductions, and demonstrations. Other examples include independently trying out and applying new technology within specific industries, sectors, and contexts, and in more in-depth collaborations, testing and developing these technologies for the organization’s own processes, products, and services. Through this service, organizations have the opportunity to explore and experiment with various solutions in close collaboration with different research groups and through the test beds and labs that these groups have access to.
At Umeå University, we offer various types of short, customized seminars, workshops, and training programs in all technical areas. Examples of educational initiatives include #FrAIday seminars, which are short lunchtime sessions to learn more about the field of AI. Another example is “AI-driven creativity,” targeted at business offices in the inland of Västerbotten, in the form of a one-day workshop where participants learn more about AI-assisted idea generation and AI tools for visual design and video production. Together with AI Competence for Sweden, we can also offer courses for professionals that span longer time periods.
