Region Västerbotten holds the regional development responsibility for Västerbotten. In the Regional Development Strategy for Västerbotten 2020-2030, digitalization and innovation are identified as crucial factors for Västerbotten to become an innovative and smart region and thereby achieve the overarching goals of a gender-equal and cohesive region that is a pioneer in transformation.
Based on the regional development strategy, a Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS) and a Regional Digitalization Strategy (RDS) for Västerbotten 2022-2030 have been developed, describing opportunities, challenges, strengths, and focus areas for digitalization and innovation.
Operationally, regional development collaborates and coordinates digitalization efforts among the 15 municipalities in Västerbotten through a regional strategy council, a collaborative platform, and several networks. Through the units of Digitalization and Innovation Management and Business and Project Financing, support is provided in the form of advisory services and guidance regarding funding opportunities that connect to the digital structural transformation of Västerbotten.
The long-standing coordination and alignment of digitalization efforts among the fifteen municipalities in Västerbotten have established a collaborative environment where various applications and services can be tested on a smaller or larger scale.
